Former Youth Minister and Parliamentarian Ahmed Mahloof has left the main opposition party, MDP.

In a letter addressed to the chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail, Mahloof thanked the party for allowing him to serve it since 2015.

Mahloof also said he was happy to have done a lot of work in the cabinet as a partner in the developments brought by the government of former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.

He apologized to anyone who was upset by his decision to resign from the party.

The letter does not mention why he decided to leave the main opposition party. However, local media reports have speculated that the ruling government is preparing to appoint the former Minister to a key role in the coming days.

This has not been confirmed by Mahloof or the government.
