Authorities have confirmed that they will close down one lane of the Sinamale' Bridge today due to the full-scale emergency exercise to be held at Velaana International Airport VIA.
Maldives Airports Company, MACL, which operates VIA, stated that the airport lane of the bridge would be closed between 4:00 pm to 09:00 pm tonight due to the exercise.
MACL also stated that the Police will direct traffic during this time and that VIA's runway would also be closed for an hour during the exercise. MACL assured that this would not hinder the operations and schedule of the airport would not be disrupted.
The main objective of the exercise, which is required to be held at the airport every three years under MACL's regulatory requirements, is to assess the airport’s ability to deal with emergencies.
The last full scale exercise at Vellana Airport was conducted three years ago in 2022.
