The Criminal Court has jailed a man who sent fake bank transaction slips to a restaurant after having eaten there for 2 years.

A man named Abdullah Fazeel was charged with fraud and knowingly creating an invalid document to deceive a person.

The prosecution alleges that from August 2019 to October 2021, Fazeel ordered and accepted food from Olive Garden Restaurant on various occasions.

Court documents revealed that he transferred less money than his original bills on several occasions.

It also said that Fazeel had prepared an invalid slip containing the amount of money on the bill and sent it to the restaurant via Viber.

The prosecution alleged that Fazeel committed fraud worth MVR 115,000. The defendant pleged guilty to both charges.

The Criminal Court sentenced him to six months house arrest and 1 year and 22 days in jail. He was sentenced to three months and 18 days in jail for the second charge.

According to the sentences of the two charges, Fazeel will spend more than one year and four months in jail after deducting the time spent in custody.
