Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel says the Ministry and missions are monitoring the situation of the Maldivians residing in the Middle East amid rising tensions in the region.

This comes after Iran attacked a US military base in Qatar after the US targeted Iranian military sites in an unprecedented attack earlier in the week. The US attack on Iran follows the exchange of heavy raids between Iran and Israel following Israel's unprovoked attack on Iran.

The attack on the base in Qatar caused the Gulf nation to close its airspace, which plunged global travel into chaos as Doha remains a key transit destination for most airlines.

Noting the development in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Khaleel assured that the Ministry and its missions were closely monitoring the situation and the Maldivians residing in the region.

The Minister also urged Maldivians living and traveling in countries whose airspaces have been shut down to be mindful of the situation.

He implode them to follow the instructions of the authorities in the countries that they are residing in, as the situation remains tense and unpredictable.
