Police have released the foreigner who was arrested in connection with the major drug bust by the Maldives Customs Services on Tuesday night.
Custom officials seized around 18 kg of narcotics after an intelligence tip led them to a bunch of plastic plant pots that were on a flight that landed from Bangalore, India.
Authorities arrested a foreigner who went to the airport to declare the imported plants.
However, the Police said today that the individual who went to the airport and the imported goods had no connection. Police added that they have since released the 35-year-old Bangladeshi man detained in the case.
Customs said that initial drug testing has determined that the drugs were cannabidiol and that 18 kgs of drugs were seized in last night's operation.
Customs also said this includes 33 packets of drugs, and that the street value of the drugs reached around MVR 26 million.
Customs carried out the operation based on an intelligence tip it had received, and the Commissioner General of Customs was quick to laud the efforts of the customs officers involved in the bust.
