Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, MTCC, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rt. Ahmed Saud says the company is ready to launch the RTL ferry services in Raa Atoll this month.
In an interview with public broadcaster PSM, the RTL ferry service was described as an MVR 1 billion project, with the project set to expand to the Raa Atoll later this month.
He also said that the company is working to launch the inter-atoll ferry service in Baa Atoll next month.
Under the third phase of India's grant assistance scheme, High Impact Community Development, MVR 100 million was awarded last month to provide RTL ferry services.
Saud said this aid has been used to build more ferries, and the company is working to recruit more staff for the next ferry lines.
He highlighted that the company aims to launch the ferry service in each Atoll every month, starting this month in Raa Atoll. He added that the current administration's endeavour in this regard will be fruitful in the future.
RTL ferry service has been launched in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani Atoll as well as Lhaviyani Atoll, Gaafu Atoll, and Addu Atoll.
