President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that empowering Maldivian families, enhancing self-sufficiency, and improving living standards will pave the way for faster national progress and a brighter future for all.
He made these remarks in a message shared on his official X account in conjunction with the International Day of Families.
In his message, the President extended his wishes of prosperity, success, and well-being to every Maldivian family.
He also noted that Islam places the highest importance on strengthening family ties, emphasising the link between strong family bonds and national development.
The President's Office stressed that the Maldives has long recognised the vital role that families play in the nation’s social development. Accordingly, national development plans include several key initiatives aimed at supporting families.
These include the introduction of the Aasandha healthcare system, the expansion of Child and Social Protection Services, the provision of financial assistance to single parents, and the extension of paid maternity leave – six months for mothers and one month for fathers.
Such policies are designed to strengthen the family unit, regarded as the fundamental pillar of society, and to empower families while ensuring that children grow up healthy, well-educated, and capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation.
