Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has proposed to retire from his post.
This comes about two months after he first indicated that he intends to retire from the highest judicial post in the country.
The Chief Justice has today submitted his proposal to retire to the Judicial Service Commission JSC. He can only retire once the JSC clears his resignation.
Chief Justice Muthasim initially indicated his plans to retire last February when he addressed new lawyers who took their oaths. Speaking at the ceremony, he said that he was now old and that he might not be present at such functions in the future in the same capacity.
The Chief Justice took on the post back in 2019. Chief Justice Muthasim is the longest-serving Chief Justice the country has seen since it adopted the 'Green Constitution'.
Before being appointed the Chief Justice, Muthasim was a judge on the Supreme Court bench from 2010 to 2014.
