President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed on his first official trip to Malaysia earlier this morning. .
The visit comes at the invitation of His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The President's Office revealed that during the visit, the President will meet with the Prime Minister and hold official talks, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation, exchanging views on regional and global issues, and exploring new avenues for partnership between the two countries.
Both leaders will also witness the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding and Exchange of Notes between the Maldives and Malaysia in some key areas.
It also stated that President Dr Muizzu will attend a Business Forum organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and engage with leading Malaysian investors. He will also visit the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) to lecture on “Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Development of Islamic Civilisation.”
The President's Office said that President Muizzu is also set to engage with the Maldivian community residing in Malaysia, highlighting his dedication to the welfare and interests of Maldivians living abroad.
The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials.
The visit aims to strengthen further the longstanding and close, cordial ties between the Maldives and Malaysia across areas of mutual interest. It also focuses on improving cooperation to make services more easily accessible for Maldivians residing in Malaysia and to address their needs and concerns.
