Police have arrested 21-year-old Raud Ahmed Zilal this evening in connection with the case of a young woman found on the rooftop of a house in Male' last Friday.
21-year-old Hawwa Yumn Rasheed was discovered on the roof of H.Mitaaz on the 18th of this month. Police today said that she was off the ventilator but was still in critical condition.
Police today released CCTV footage which showed how Yumn, along with suspect Raud, entered the adjacent house, H. Fentonia, in a state of intoxication before engaging in sexual activities on the stairwell of the house.
In the footage, Yumn is then seen hiding from Raud while he searches for her by walking from one floor to the other of the house. Police believe that Yumn fell onto the roof of the building next door from the 9th floor of Fentonia on her own accord and that Raud was seen searching for her after she had fallen.
At a press conference today, Police said that they were working to implement an arrest warrant against Raud as he was refusing to cooperate in the investigation. In a message to the media this evening, Police confirmed that the warrant was executed and the 21-year-old was arrested.
Police also said that they have seized the phones of 7 individuals identified as persons of interest in this case. They further said that they have searched two houses in connection with the case, including Mandhooge Terrac,e as well as 2nd and 4th floor of the house and the 3rd floor of Kashiveli.
