President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says his administration will not discriminate against anyone in the implementation of the Constitution and laws, and the rule of law in this country.
The President said that there will be no discrimination based on one’s account, lineage, position, wealth, friendship, family relationship, political opinion, or anything else
This comes after a protest was staged by the youth of the country last night at the Henveiru Police Station, condemning social injustice and biased actions from authorities.
The protest, which is set to continue tonight, followed an incident where a young woman was found on the rooftop of a house in Male' on the 18th of this month. Allegations of gang rape and drug-fueled parties came to surface while the Police said that the woman may have fallen on the roof of the building from the 9th floor of the house next door on her own as she was intoxicated.
Comments made by police further fueled the anger online, which poured onto the streets last night, with protesters accusing authorities of working to protect the high-class individuals involved in the case.
Since then, the Police released never-before-seen footage of the young woman and another man on the stairwell of the house minutes before she fell onto the roof next door.
The man in the video, identified as 21-year-old Raud Ahmed Zilal, is the brother of the Under Secretary of Digital Strategy Daud Ahmed, who was suspended from his post earlier today.
Police also released the identities of 7 others involved in the investigation, including the former Under Secretary for Strategic Communications at the President's Office Izdhiyan Mohamed Maumoon who was dismissed from his post just hours before Police identified him as a POI in this case.
