Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed has confirmed that the President has dismissed the Under Secretary for Strategic Communications, Izdhiyan Mohamed Maumoon, amid allegations that he was involved in the drug-fueled parties.
This comes after a young woman was found on the rooftop of a house in Male' on the 21st of this month, with allegations on social media saying that the woman was raped and thrown on to the roof.
However, Police have come out to say that the woman was seen on CCTV footage with a man in the stairwell of the adjacent building and that they were both intoxicated. Police also recounted that the footage proved that the woman fell on the roof of the building next door alone.
The police account of the event sparked massive outrage on social media, with several accounts providing photos of the men involved in the 'attack' against the 21-year-old woman.
Social media activists have outed Izdhiyan as one of the individuals involved in the supposed attack against the young woman. The President's Office did not give a reason for his dismissal.
Meanwhile, President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed also confirmed today that the Office has suspended its Under Secretary for Digital Strategy, Daud Ahmed, without pay.
