President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he is deeply saddened and shocked by the horrific attack that targeted tourists in the Indian-Administered Kashmir.
News reports say a gunman opened fire on tourists visiting the picturesque town of Pahalgam in Kashmir on Tuesday, killing 26. Reports also said that many who were wounded in the attack remain critical.
In a social media post, President Muizzu stated that the Government of the Maldives remains steadfast in its commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
He also said that our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
BBC reported that there has been no official confirmation yet on who carried out the brutal attack, but some media reports say a group linked to Pakistan-based organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba may have claimed responsibility.
The attack in Pahalgam has shocked many, as though Kashmir, claimed by India and Pakistan, has seen decades-long insurgency and military activity, attacks against tourists are almost non-existent.
