President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on every Maldivian to take pride in the armed forces' achievements and support ongoing efforts to enhance their operational capacity.

The President made these remarks in his address at the ceremony commemorating the 133rd anniversary of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

asserted that the safety and security of the Maldives rest on the dedication to raising standards within the military, providing necessary resources, and ensuring rigorous training protocols for service members. The President highlighted that a collective effort towards national defence must be fuelled by genuine love for the country and a commitment to preserving freedom for future generations.

The President was clear in his stance against those who may undermine military progress, stating that such individuals lack patriotism and are self-serving. He stressed that it is the responsibility of every citizen to reject negativity towards national defence and instead foster a spirit of solidarity and support for the military. In doing so, he urged Maldivians to embrace a national identity deeply rooted in love for their homeland.

Reflecting on his assumption of office on November 17, 2023, the President reiterated that safeguarding the nation's independence and sovereignty is his foremost duty.

He recognised the armed forces as essential partners in this endeavour, pledging Government support for economic and military independence. He reminded attendees that although the Maldives has a relatively small population, its vast territorial waters—encompassing 99 percent of the country—are equally vital to its national integrity.
