A case has been filed against MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) at the Civil Court and the Family Court over the comments made about President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Saajidha Mohamed's son, Umair Mohamed Muizzu.

The comments were made by Mandhy at an MDP rally held in March.

Speaking at an MDP protest, Mandhy accused the government of orchestrating a ban on vaping to stop the First Couple's son from vaping. Her accusations were summarily denied by the First Family.

In a statement, the First Family's lawyer and former Attorney General, Azima Shukoor, said that the remarks made against the President's son have created a situation that could endanger Umair's life and education and cause serious damage to his education and future.

It said that a case has been filed in the Civil Court against Mandi, MDP, and Fayyaz for violating their constitutional right to protect an individual's name and reputation.

At the same time, a case has been filed in the Family Court against Mandi, MDP, and Fayyaz for depriving children of their dignity and protection guaranteed by the Child Rights Protection Act and the International Convention on the Protection of Child Rights.

Meanwhile, the statement added that the case was filed because, as a mother, Madam Sajida believes the safety of the President’s son and other children who may be in those positions tomorrow must be assured of safety
