President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, following a recommendation from his Cabinet, has decided to launch a nationwide campaign aimed at raising public awareness of road traffic regulations.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Sunday, following a proposal submitted by the President.
The campaign will be conducted by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, and the Maldives Police Service.
This comes in a week where two youths lost their lives in two fatal traffic accidents. One accident happened in Laamu Atoll while the other was reported from Addu City.
Traffic accidents have been consistently rising across the country, with Police statistics showing that 829 accidents have occurred so far this year.
