The man who attempted to take his own life while under Police custody in Kulhudhufushi City has succumbed to his injuries.
A 34-year-old local man attempted to take his own life on the 4th of this month while at the Custodial jail in Kulhudhufushi City.
He was arrested on the 2nd of this month for intoxication and disorderly conduct.
The suspect was rushed to the Hospital in Kulhudhufushi for treatment, and the hospital reported that the suspect was critical.
Today, the hospital confirmed that the suspect had passed away due to his injuries and that he died in the afternoon.
Police said an internal investigation into the incident was being conducted by the Professional Standards Command.
In addition, the police have shared the information with the Human Rights Commission and the National Integrity Commission.
A similar incident happened at the same station back in 2022 when a man arrested for the alleged murder of his wife took his life while under police custody.
