After a month-long holiday, the new academic year has begun across the country.
The last academic year ended on the 27th of February this year, and this year, the school holidays fell on the holy month of Ramadan.
The Education Ministry reported that the new school year began in 216 schools. It said that the year began with around 90,000 students from pre-school to up to Grade 12.
It also stated that in the Greater Male' area, more than 2,000 students began their Primary Education (Starting from Grade 1). It added that more than 5,000 students started their primary education across the country.
The Ministry also reported that 1,200 students from schools in the inner islands transferred to schools in the capital city.
It added that around 500 students transferred between schools in the Atolls.
The country began the new academic year with a teaching force of 11,000 teachers, and out of that, 10,000 teachers work for government schools.
The students would go on their first semester break on the 24th of July with a 2-week break on the cards.
The second semester would begin on the 10th of August and would continue till 28th December.
