Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH says the man wounded in the house fire in Alifu Alifu Rasdhoo has been taken off the ventilator.
The man and his wife were wounded in a fire that started in their room earlier this month. Both had serious burns on 80 percent of their bodies and were put on ventilators.
Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries last Monday.
Today, the hospital reported that the man had been taken off the ventilator. However, the hospital official said that the victim remained critical and that he was still being treated in the ICU.
IGMH had flown in Burns and Plastic Surgeon Dr. Shailash V. Ranaad from India's Batia Hospital in Mumbai to assist in the treatment.
Authorities have yet to confirm how the fire broke out in the couple's home. Reports confirmed that though the fire started in their room, the room did not have much fire damage.
