President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has allocated 325.5 hectares from Haa Alifu Kelaa Island’s lagoon for the development of two resorts, in line with his Presidential pledge.
This decision was formalized through amendments announced by Presidential Decree No. 07/2025, issued on Saturday.
These amendments were made under the Decentralization Act (Act No. 07/2010), section 56-1, subsection (a), which grants the President the authority to designate areas for both City and Island Councils.
The newly formed chart of Kelaa Island has now been codified and published in the Government Gazette.
