Police have arrested a local man in the case where black oil was thrown at MDP activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) earlier this month.
They said that 20-year-old Ahmed Rishmah was arrested last Thursday. Police also said the Criminal Court remanded the suspect in custody for 15 days.
Police added that they were further investigating the case.
The incident happened on the night of 16th March after Mandhy left the MDP protests held that night. It was reported that two assailants on a motorbike threw black oil at the MDP activist and that they had covered their faces.
Mandhy is one of the individuals First Lady Sajidhaa Mohamed had said she would file civil charges against after comments about the First Lady and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 16-year-old son. The First Lady, through her lawyers, has said that she would file charges against MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail as well as MDP.
Speaking at an MDP protest, Mandhy accused the government of orchestrating a ban on vaping to stop the First Couple's son from vaping. Her accusations were summarily denied by the First Family.
