The Maldives strongly condemned the announcement by the Israeli authorities to establish an agency aimed at the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, along with plans to separate 13 illegal settlement areas in the West Bank, in preparation for their legitimisation as colonial settlements.
In a statement, the government of Maldives said that it considers these actions a serious violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 2334.
Forced displacement and settlement expansion undermine peace efforts and threaten the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
The Maldives called on the international community to act urgently to protect civilians and help end the violence in Gaza.
It also said that it stood firmly with the Palestinian people and supports their legitimate right to an independent state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
