President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed the former Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh as the new Immigration Controller.
The Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed this in a late-night social media post. Heena said that Faseeh was appointed as the new Immigration Controller at the state minister level.
Faseeh's appointment comes hours after former Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamman Waheed was dismissed from his post unceremoniously.
Shamman was dismissed shortly after Police announced that they had launched an investigation into a case where Immigration Officers had used their positions to extort money from migrant workers.
Police also said that they had arrested three individuals so far in the case but refrained from clarifying whether they were Immigration Officers or not.
Media reports have suggested that Shamman was dismissed because of the allegations. However, this has yet to be confirmed by any official channels.
