Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamman Waheed has been dismissed from his post after a case of some immigration employees using their positional influence to extort money from foreign workers surfaces.
Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed to The Press that Shamman has been dismissed from his post. However, she did not give a reason for his dismissal.
His dismissal came shortly after Police announced that they were investigating a case where immigration officers were using their positions to extort money from migrant workers.
Police also stated that they had arrested three individuals concerning the case but stopped short of saying whether or not they were Immigration officers.
Shamman was appointed as the Immigration Controller back in 2023 by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
