Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology says it has collected the biometric data of 100,000 expatriate workers in the last 10 months.
It said in a statement today that this includes the data for more than 65,000 migrants living in the Greater Male' area.
The Ministry said that at the end of the previous administration, biometric data had only been collected for around 40,000 expatriate workers.
It lamented that the issue of expatriate workers escalated because of a lack of affirmative action from the previous governments.
The Ministry added that by the time it completes Operation Kurangi, the problem of undocumented migrant workers will hopefully be resolved.
It also said that once it completes the operation, the strict regulations on bringing in migrant workers to the country would also be eased.
The Ministry said that migrant workers who have yet to submit their biometric data must do so before 30th April via Fthe oreign Labor Department.
It added that the Ministry would begin deportation process for those migrants who have not submitted their biometric data before the end of next month.
