The Foreign Ministry has downplayed the operation carried out by the security forces last night, saying that there was no immediate concern right now.
In a statement, the Ministry said that last night, acting on intelligence reports, the Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force began a Counter-Terrorism Operation in the Greater Malé Area.
It said that these operations are routinely conducted in line with intelligence reports as preventive measures to ensure the safety and security of the Maldives.
The Ministry also said that three individuals have been arrested in connection with last night’s operation, and locations and vehicles are being searched under court warrants.
It added that though the operation is still ongoing, there exists no present concern at this time.
The Ministry affirmed the government's commitment to upholding the safety and assuring the protection of all residing in the country.
It assured that the authorities will continue to monitor and take swift action on any information on threats received, to ensure that the Maldives remains a safe, secure, and peaceful destination for its residents and visitors.
