Three people have been arrested in an operation carried out to nullify a threat against national security last night.
The Police and the armed forces, the Maldives National Defence Force MNDF performed the joint operation.
Under the operation, the security forces searched several places in Male' and Hulhumale'. They stopped a vehicle being driven near the Republic Square and searched the driver's house.
The security forces also searched an apartment unit in the Vinares Towers over in Phase II of Hulhumale'.
In a short statement in the early hours of this morning, Police confirmed that they had arrested three individuals in the national security operation.
They did not give any more information.
Last night, Police issued a statement on social media saying that they were carrying out the operation in Male along with MNDF but later deleted the statement.
Police then sent a message to the media saying that they deleted the earlier statement because they were verifying certain sensitive details and they were committed to providing accurate and reliable information.
