Indian authorities have seized 30 kg of narcotics that were being smuggled into the Maldives.
Indian media reported that the bust was made in an anti-narcotics operation on the 5th of this month. It said that the major operation was carried out by the Indian Coast Guard and its Directorate of Revenue Intelligence DRI.
The operation was conducted following a tip-off that a tugboat was trying to smuggle drugs from Tuticorin to the Maldives.
The Indian media also said that the street price of the seized narcotics was around USD 58 million. The media reports cited Indian authorities to confirm that the seized drugs were hashish oil.
The ship was taken back to the port of Tuticorin for further investigation and the nine crew members were handed over to the DRI.
