President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared today a public holiday as the country faces worsening weather conditions in most regions.
The Presidential Spokesperson, Heena Waleed, confirmed this in the early hours of today.
In a social media post, Heena said the President declared today a holiday due to the continuous heavy rain in the country and flooding in some areas.
She added that many have been affected by the flooding and bad weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Met Office extended its orange alert to the Central Maldives till 7:00 this morning. The Met Office issued the warning from 03:00 in the morning to 07:00 in the morning.
It said torrential rain would continue and that thunderstorms with possible flooding were expected. The alert was issued from Baa Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll.
