Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has survived a no-confidence motion submitted against him by MDP Parliamentarians.

The motion against the Minister notes several serious accusations against him. In a broad statement, the motion states that the Minister has acted in a manner a Cabinet Minister should never act.

At the same time, the MDP said the minister, as the minister responsible for the police, was exerting political influence on the investigations being conducted by the service and was obstructing the investigation of criminal activities by the government.

MDP also accuses the Minister of abusing his authority over the Department of National Registry DNR to use the personal information of many individuals to register them to the ruling PNC without their knowledge.

The motion was put to debate today and Minister Ihusan was summoned to speak in his defence.

When the motion was put to a vote at today's session, out of the 75 MPs who took part in the vote, 12 MDP MPs voted to dismiss him from office while 63 MPs voted against the no-confidence motion.
