President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated Uhdhoo as a picnic island for the people of the southern part of the Nilandhe Atoll.

This designation, announced during the President's ongoing tour of all the inhabited islands of South Nilandhe Atoll, means that Uhdhoo will now serve as a leisure destination for the community.

Uhdhoo, previously owned by a private individual, was returned to the Government after the agreement expired. The President has entrusted Uhdhoo to the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, which is overseeing the island's management and facilitating travel to Uhdhoo.

The Ministry will soon announce its plans for Uhdhoo, providing transparency and reassurance to the community.

During his visit to Meedhoo, the President addressed several issues that instilled hope in the residents.

He reassured them that comprehensive solutions would be devised to tackle the housing issues during his tenure. The President also pledged that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry system would be operational by the end of 2025 and that the island's waste management problem would be effectively managed through WAMCO.
