The Parliament has approved the appointment of Thoriq Ibrahim as the Minister of Tourism and Environment after the President merged two key Ministries earlier this month.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu merged the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and appointed the former Environment Minister Thoriq as the new Minister.
The parliament took a vote today to approve his appointment and all 70 MPs voted in favour of his appointment.
The two Ministries were merged after President Muizzu dismissed former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal from his post.
The government has yet to reveal why the President dismissed ex-Minister Faisal who is also the son of the Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah.
