MP for Hulhumale' North Constituency Hussain Shareef has accused the top brass of Maldives police service and the judiciary sector of having ties with the gangs and law enforcement agencies are complicit in gang-related crimes.

He made these comments while debating the gang-related crimes bill proposed by the MP for Mahchangoalhi South Constituency Musthafa Hussain.

MP Shareef said it is important to understand how the gangs are connected and that it has always been said that these gangs are also connected to government agencies.

He said that the parliament should rethink before giving law enforcement agencies more powers to prevent gang-related crimes.

He added that a younger generation is being exposed to the criminal environment at the age of adolescence.

"I am talking about this when we believe that our society is safe and our youth are the future of this country tomorrow. To build the youth strongly, all governments have to think very seriously today and show the way for the future of the youth in the form of a state.
MP Shareef

When giving powers to the enforcement agencies, it is not right to leave the public unjustly punished, he said, adding that it is unacceptable for any part of the public to be treated unjustly.
