President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says police stations will be opened in all the country's inhabited islands by the end of this year.
The President made these remarks whilst delivering the Presidential Address at today's opening session of the People's Majlis for 2025.
In his address, the President noted that the government prioritizes developing the work of the Police service to help maintain law and order in the country.
He recounted that since 17th November 2023, Police stations have been opened in 27 islands. He also said that police stations are yet to be opened in 39 islands and that they would be opened by the end of this year.
The President said that in his first address as President, he promised to protect the freedom and sovereignty of the country and that he remains determined not to allow anything to shake the freedom of the country.
President Muizzu said that the government is working to develop the ability to protect the country's border via air, land, and sea. He detailed work is already underway to double the capabilities of the MNDF Coastguard.
He noted they are working to bring in more vessels and crafts for the coastguard and also build new coastguard centers to further enhance it.
In his address, the President said the MNDF Air Corps was established on March 15, 2024, to enhance modern military capabilities.
He said that with the introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles, many foreign vessels operating illegally in the Maldivian waters have been recovered with the help of these vehicles.
