Police have returned the MVR 1.4 million seized from the home of the former Managing Director of HDC Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed.
Police found a large sum of money during their search of his house last December after they launched an investigation into the forgery case involving the Binveriya Housing Scheme.
The money was reportedly found in a bag.
However, in a message shared with the media today, police said they had searched the apartment of the accused in the HDC land case and returned the money to the owner after checking the money.
Police had said that they had questioned Fazul regarding the case and that he had been accused of destroying official documents.
Fazul's passport has been seized in connection with the case and Police said that his departure ban is still being upheld.
Authorities seized the passport of 20 individuals in the case but has since released the passports of 9 individuals.
