Immigration officials have apprehended more than 40 illegal foreigners after a raid in Kaafu Atoll Island Hura.
It said that they carried out the raid in Hura yesterday from 6 in the morning to 5 in the evening to weed out foreigners who were living illegally in Hura.
Immigration noted that in its operation it apprehended 46 foreigners who were living illegally in the Kaafu Atoll island.
The Immigration had carried out a similar raid on the nearby island of Kaafu Guraidhoo and apprehended 39 illegal foreigners.
Authorities in the Maldives are frequently conducting such raids to weed out illegal migrants as the Administration looks to decrease the number of documented foreigners in the country.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed recently that this administration has deported more than 5,000 illegal migrants in its one year in office and that this number is higher than that of the last three years combined.
