The Elections Commission has resolved the People's Progressive Party PPM in which former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former President Abdullah Yameen played key founding roles.
The Party's senate voted to resolve the party back in December with all 42 members voting to disband the party.
The Elections Commission kicked start the work to dissolve the party and it announced today that the work has now been completed after the party's senate submitted all the documentation.
It said that the party has now been dissolved and removed from the political party's registry.
The PPM members have decided to dissolve the party because there is no need to conduct political activities separately as many members of the PPM have joined the ruling PNC.
PPM was founded after former President Maumoon's DRP was segregated into two factions.
The Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) was also removed from the register of political parties yesterday.
The EC said the MRM had not reached the 3,000 members required by the law to survive as per Article 30(h)(1) of the Political Parties Act.
