The Tourism Ministry says more than 130,000 tourists arrived in the country in the first 20 days of the year.
In its weekly update published yesterday, the Ministry said as of January 20th, 132, 235 tourists have arrived in the Maldives. It indicated that this was a 9.4 percent growth compared to 2024.
This number is 11,316 more than the same period last year and 23,729 more compared to the year before.
The statistics also showed that out of the arrivals, 91,637 tourists were resort arrivals and that this accounted for 69 percent of the arrivals in January.
It also showed that 33,991 tourists who made bookings at local guesthouses also arrived in the first 20 days of the year.
Meanwhile, Russia replaced China as the top tourist market for the Maldives with 16,073 Russian tourists visiting the world's leading tourist destination so far this year.
China fell to 2nd place with 14,208 tourists arriving from the country. Italy moved from 5th place in 2024 to 3rd place in the first 20 days of 2025 with 14,053 tourists arriving from the European nation.
The United Kingdom and Germany completed the top 5 tourist markets for the Maldives.
