Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office has issued a yellow alert over the Southern Atolls today.
It said that the alert was issued from Thaa Atoll to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll from 09:30 in the morning to 01:30 in the afternoon.
The Met Office said that torrential rain and thunderstorms with 40 miles per-hour gusts and rough seas were expected during this time.
Meanwhile, the Met Office issued a white alert over some northern atolls and Central Atolls today.
The alert was issued from Noonu Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll from 12:30 in the afternoon to 06:30 in the evening.
The Met Office further said that strong winds of 19-24 miles per hour with rough seas were expected in the area.
