President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says the relieved to hear that a ceasefire deal has been reached after 15 months of genocidal war in Gaza.

His comments came after the US and mediators Qatar said that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a deal that could halt the war in Gaza and see the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

President Muizzu said that the Maldives expresses its profound appreciation to the countries that have facilitated this agreement.

He also said that the Maldives urges the international community to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire, allowing the return home of those displaced, and access to humanitarian assistance.

The President called on Israel to pay reparations to Palestine. He further urged the international community to provide Palestine with the urgent support it needs to rebuild after the devastation caused by the Israeli aggression.

The 15-month attack on Gaza by Israel has killed more than 46,000 people in the Palestinian enclave, and thousands more have been injured and displaced due to the devastating attacks.
