Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office has warned that the Maldives will face an adverse weather episode from 13 January onwards.
In a weather news brief today, the Met Office said that cyclonic circulation currently located far east of Maldives in southwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to move westwards.
It said that this system is expected to cause the formation of intense convective clouds over the Maldives.
The Met Office said that as a result rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over a fairly widespread area of the country from 13th January to 18th January.
It also said that average winds are expected to strengthen with rough seas over the area. It further said swell surges are also likely, particularly over northern and central Atolls.
The Met Office advised all to be updated with weather forecasts, advisories, and warnings to take necessary precautions.
Unpredictable weather patterns in the Maldives have been wreaking havoc in the island nation with severe flooding in different parts of the country.
