Former Chairperson of Maldives Democratic Party MDP Hassan Latheef has rejoined the party after leaving the Democrats.
Latheef along with fellow democrats member Mohamed Shifaz re-signed for the party today. This was confirmed by MDP as the party welcomed back two of the party's former leaders.
Latheef, who was the chairperson of the Democrats when he left the party, resigned from the post yesterday. In a letter addressed to the party's vice Chairperson, Latheef informed the party of his decision to resign from the post but did not give a reason behind his decision.
The Democrats also lost former MD of STO Hussain Amr to MDP yesterday after he rejoined the party as former MP Ali Azim.
The Democrats were former after in-fighting in MDP resulted in two factions within the party with one faction supporting former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the other faction backing former MDP President Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed's faction later broke away from MDP and formed the Democrats.
