President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will be departing on an official visit to the Republic of Estonia at the invitation of His Excellency Dr Alar Karis, President of Estonia. The visit is to take place from January 13-16, 2025.
This is the first official visit to Estonia by a sitting President of the Maldives and will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring partnership opportunities. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and identifying potential areas of collaboration including digital, cyber, and e-governance fields, on climate and environmental issues, and in science and education between the Maldives and Estonia.
During the visit, President Dr. Muizzu will be meeting with President Dr Karis, President of the Estonian Parliament ‘Riigikogu’ His Excellency Lauri Hussar, and various Ministers, including Minister of Education and Research, Her Excellency Kristina Kallas and Minister of Climate Her Excellency Yoko Alender, Minister of Health Her Excellency Riina Sikut, Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Her Excellency Liisa-Ly Pakosta and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Jonatan Vseviov.
The President will also visit the Estonian city of Tartu, where the Mayor of Tartu, Mr Urmas Klaas will welcome the President. Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia and houses the University of Tartu, which belongs to the top 1 percent of the world’s most-cited universities and scientific institutions in Clinical Medicine. The President will visit the University, its university’s research and developments, and the Estonian Genome Database Centre, as well as the Greenergy Data Centre.
The meetings and discussions will focus on innovations and technological advancements Estonia has made. The President will also participate in a round table organized by the Digital Advisory Council to the President of Estonia, which will provide an avenue to explore further cooperation between the two countries.
