Authorities have arrested a local man for attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.
Officials arrested a 39-year-old from Fuvahmulah City. The Criminal Court had remanded the suspect for 15 days in Police custody.
The Court order said that officials found drugs under the handles of the two pieces of luggage the suspect had brought in when he arrived in the country via air. The drugs were found in bags.
The order also states that the drug found inside the bag weighed 109 grams. Customs examined the items and found them to be positive for heroin.
Police told the court that his urine tested positive for drugs.
The suspect had a criminal record for drug-related crimes.
