President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced plans for a bulk delivery of rock boulders needed to resume construction of the stalled building.
He made these remarks while addressing the residents of Rathafandhoo island during his visit to several islands in Huvadhu Atoll on Wednesday.
In his speech, the President highlighted efforts to commence stalled projects affected by material and funding shortages. He shared that last week, he met with corporate owners, Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer, and Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib to address these issues. He confirmed that a plan and the necessary funds had been secured within the last week.
During the meeting, the President outlined the Government's development plans for Rathafandhoo. He assured residents that the water and sewerage project would resume, and the necessary extensions of services in the area would be included. He also announced plans to create a community swimming area for the island.
The President highlighted an ongoing initiative to introduce ATM services across all Maldivian islands, confirming that Rathafandhoo will be included this year. Additionally, he revealed plans to establish a fully equipped waste management center in Rathafandhoo within the year, tailored to meet the resident's needs.
The President stated that work on the island's ice plant is advancing with support from Saudi funds and that the Minister of Finance will soon meet with members of the fund.
He also announced that several projects for Rathafandhoo will be prioritized and initiated within the year. He recognized the island's significant contributions to education, highlighting its well-educated citizens, including children serving the nation and doctors in the healthcare sector. He also noted the presence of distinguished scholars in various fields. The President pledged the Government's commitment to improving education, well-being, social stability, and development on the island. He promised to address Rathafandhoo’s development needs and deliver meaningful results.
After the meeting, the President visited the Rathafandhoo Health Centre and the Secretariat of South Huvadhu Atoll Rathafandhoo Council of the island and assessed the situation there.
