A taxi crashed into another vehicle and caused a serious accident at Velaana International Airport today.
Police said the accident occurred at 9:45 am today when a taxi lost control and hit road dividers and a van before hitting the back of a pickup truck.
They also said that the taxi driver was injured in the crash and that the driver was rushed to Hulhumale' hospital. Police further said that the passenger in the back seat of the taxi received minor injuries and was treated at the clinic at the Airport.
Police added that they were further investigating the clash.
Meanwhile, Maldives Airports Company Limited MACL which oversees the operations at VIA said that its preliminary findings of the incident showed that the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle because he had suffered a medical emergency.
Accidents are not uncommon at VIA. In 2022, several MACL staff were injured when a company vehicle crashed at the airport.
