Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office says 136 mm of rainfall was recorded in Male' in the last 24 hours which caused flooding in major parts of the island city.

It said that the 24 period recorded was from 08:00 hrs on the 20th to 08:00 hrs on the 21st December.

The Met Office said after Male', the most rainfall was recorded in Hulhule where 117.4 mm of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours.

Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo was a close 3rd on the list with 115 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Met Office said 70.7 mm of rainfall was recorded in Kaafu Gaafaru while 62.2 mm was recorded in Hulhumale'.

The heavy downpour in Male' caused flooding in most parts of the island. Maldives National Defence Force MNDF personnel have been working to drain the flood water from different parts of Male since last night.

It said that it had installed temporary water pumps in different areas of Male' to help drain the water.
