National Disaster Management Authority NDMA says more than 70 households in Noonu Atoll Hebadhoo reported damage due to the devastating rainfall earlier this morning.
NDMA said that 75 households reported different ranges of flood damage due to the rainfall on the island today. It also said that the island's council as well as Maldives National Defence Force MNDF are working to drain the flooding on the island.
Local media reports said that the devastation was caused by just 2 hours of continuous rainfall.
Meanwhile, NDMA also said that it is also active in Kendhikulhedhoo of the same Atoll as well as Lhaviyani Kurendhoo after today's rainfall caused flooding in the islands too.
The Authority said that it was working with the island councils to provide the necessary assistance to islands and their residents.
Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office issued a weather advisory yesterday saying that bad weather would persist across the country for the next five days due to two different weather systems over the country.
