Government Offices affected by the fire at the Green Building in Maafanu ward of Male' have suspended their services temporarily.

It was reported that the fire initially started at the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and then spread to the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Environment which had offices in the same building.

The City Council also operated its Vital Registration Unit at the building and the department was also burned beyond use.

The Construction Ministry said in a statement that it had temporarily suspended its services and that it would inform the public when it would be able to begin providing services again.

The Environment Ministry too said in a statement that it would be suspending its services to the public as the fire destroyed most of its equipment and sources.

Also, the Environmental Protection Agency EPA said in a post on X that due to the fire incident at the EPA office and adjacent offices, its services were temporarily on hold.

EPA also said that it would inform the public when it would be able to resume operations.

Local media have reported that City Council has moved its operations at the damaged Vital Registration Unit to its offices in Hulhumale'.

Maldives National Defence Force MNDF has yet to confirm whether the fire has been extinguished but had said an hour ago that 90 percent of the fire had been put out.
