A fire broke out at an office building in the Maafannu District of Male' earlier today. The fire initially broke out at the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development. Still, it had since spread to the Construction Ministry next door and the Environment Ministry in the same building.
MNDF firefighters are scrambling to get the fire under control.
Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon said to the media that security personnel had initially prioritized evacuating the people near the area to safety and that the fire had spread wide by the time they evacuated.
He also said that MNDF firefighters were using all the equipment at their disposal and that they had brought in more engines from Maldives Airports Company MACL.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his cabinet ministers also visited the scene of the fire earlier in the day.
